Proverbs 23:4 (NLT), "Don't wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit."
Thursday... Yes, there are choices.
In so many ways our desires, our wants controls us. Even at this age that I am living my desire strives to control me. Do you want to get rich? Oh if I had all that money I know I would be happy, I would be at peace. Even in our older age we need need need or it is better to say we want want want. But I am finding there is another choice that makes all the difference and that is wisdom.
Now a big portion of the Proverbs in the Old Testament of the Bible was written by the wisest man who ever lived and he also was the wealthiest. Chapter 1:1-4 says, "These are the proverbs of Solomon, David's son, king of Israel. Their purpose is to teach wisdom and discipline. to help them understand the insights of the wise. Their purpose is to teach to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair. These proverbs will give insight to the simple, knowledge and discernment to the young." And also to the old.
Yes, for the most part our wants, our desires control us and they wear us out. Now the verse that I highlighted this morning is Proverbs 23:4 (NLT). It says, "Don't wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit." And that is so important even at the ages that Margaret and I are.
Now there is an important decision that we need to make and our wants get in the way and we are worn, worn out. Again, Proverbs 23:4 says, "Don't wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit." And there is the important word, wise. Even at our age we need to make wise choices.
All through my night last night James 1:5a (NIV) kept coming to my mind. I mean it, all night and I woke us this morning saying it. James writes, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God." Wisdom is so important no matter what age we are. And God is the one who gives it if we ask him.
Oh, we don't need to ask for the ability to want. That is definitely one that we woke up with when we were born and it can control us. Yes, there are choices. And wisdom is such an important one.
Again, Proverbs 23:4 says, "Don't wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit." And verse 5 goes on, "In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle."
Verse 9 says, "Don't waste your breath on fools, for they will despise the wisest advice."
Verse 19, "My child, listen and be wise; Keep your heart on the wise course."
And verse 23, "Get the truth and never sell it; also get wisdom and instruction and good judgement."
Our prayer is that Margaret and I will make wise choices and that we will live by wisdom instead of wants.
Yes, there are choices but being wise will definitely be rewarded. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
