1 Corinthians 13:7 (NLT), "Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance."
Tuesday... We just have trouble listening.
Over in Jeremiah 25:4 (NLT) it says, "Again and again the LORD has sent you his servants, the prophets, but you have not listened or even paid attention." And Jeremiah went on to tell what was going to happen. There will be consequences if we do not listen to what God says through his Word.
Now the Apostle Paul over in 1 Corinthians was having a problem with some professed Christ followers who were having trouble at listening. And we too can have problems at listening. We can think that being a Christ follower means we do a lot of finger pointing and we give up on people who don't do what we say. We can even do that in our families. But Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 13:7 (NLT), "Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance."
In verse 4 it says, "Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude."
Now love comes out in so many ways. Way back in the beginning of time God showed how much he loved us and of how he wanted us to really love him but Adam and Eve blew it and had to live out the consequences of their not showing their love for God by disobeying him. They didn't really listen but through love, God changed direction and set up a new plan which meant that His Son was going to die as a sacrifice for their and our sins and God was very patient. He kept giving them chance after chance. But so many didn't listen and the same is true today.
"Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance."
Now over in Jeremiah 24 he writes about good figs and bad figs. The good figs represent the exiles that he sent as captives to Babylon. Verse 6 (MSG) says, "I will keep my eyes on them for good and will return them to this land. I will build them up and not tear them down; I will plant them and not uproot them. I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the LORD. They will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with all their heart." But the bad fruit was a different story. The bad fruit was destroyed.
God is serious about our love. Verse 13 says, "Three things last forever - faith, hope and love - and the greatest of these is love."
Love is so much more than just an emotional feeling. Remember, God gave up His one and only Son to die for us. And He created us to love Him. And we need to listen and remember, "Three things last forever - faith, hope and love - and the greatest of these is love."
Yes, let's listen and surrender ourselves to His love. It will last forever. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
