Thursday: This is such a good habit.


Luke 14:11 (AMP), "For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled [before others], and he who habitually humbles himself (keeps a realistic self-view) will be exalted."

Thursday: This is such a good habit.

Over in Proverbs 23 it tells of habits that have some problems with them. Verses 20-23 (AMP) says, "Do not associate with heavy drinkers of wine, or with gluttonous eater of meat. For the heavy drinker and the glutton will come to poverty, and the drowsiness [of overindulgence] will clothe one with rags." There are habits in there that do not turn out for our best. They are not good habits.


But in Luke 14:11 Jesus tells of a good habit. He says, "For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled [before others], and he who habitually humbles himself (keeps a realistic self-view) will be exalted."

Again, "he who habitually humbles himself (keeps a realistic self-view) will be exalted." I'm sorry the habits of drinking and eating the wrong things to excess can be a very real problem but keeping a realistic self-view is a very good, profitable thing to do.

Jesus says in verses 10-13 (MSG), "When you're invited, go and sit at the last place. Then when the host comes he may very well say, 'Friend, come up to the front.' That will give the dinner guests something to talk about! What I'm saying is, if you walk around all high and mighty, you're going to end up flat on your face. But if you're content to be simply yourself, you will become more than yourself."

Now understand this, God does not create junk. Each one of us is very special. And "he who habitually humbles himself (keeps a realistic self-view) will be exalted." Now it does take work. There is a part of all of us that wants to be noticed, to be lifted up, to be first. And, realizing that God created us to make a difference for His glory is so important. He wants you to become more than yourself but we do it to bring God glory, to make Him look good. That is why we were created. And he who habitually humbles himself (keeps a realistic self-view) will be exalted." And there is the key. We need to keep a realistic self-view and God will make you become more than yourself. And that is a very good habit, isn't it?

Yes, habitually humbling yourself by keeping a realistic self-view means you will become more than yourself. The NLT says verse 11 this way, "For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted." That is what Jesus said. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning

Tuesday... We just have trouble listening.

1 Corinthians 13:7 (NLT), "Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance." Tuesday... We just have trouble listening. Over in Jeremiah 25:4 (NLT) it says, "Again and again the LORD has sent you his servants, the prophets, but you have not listened or even paid attention." And Jeremiah went on to tell what was going to happen. There will be consequences if we do not listen to what God says through his Word. Now the Apostle Paul over in 1 Corinthians was having a problem with some professed Christ followers who were having trouble at listening. And we too can have problems at listening. We can think that being a Christ follower means we do a lot of finger pointing and we give up on people who don't do what we say. We can even do that in our families. But Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 13:7 (NLT), "Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance." In verse ...

Friday... It is so exciting but wait a minute.

Proverbs 19:2 (NLT), "Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes." Friday... It is so exciting but wait a minute. This time of the year is so exciting. We get our paycheck from work and then we head to the store or Amazon and buy and buy and buy all those presents and then our check is gone Proverbs 19:2 (NLT) says, "Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes." But buying gifts can be so much fun and seeing how happy they are when opening those presents makes us feel so good. But then verse 3 says, "People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then they are angry at the Lord." Now for some that is their life. They get money and they spend it on their wants with no thought of what needs to be paid. An important lesson that we have learned is just because you have money in the bank doesn't mean you must spend it. But our enthusiasm takes over.
