Friday... Just another day.

Acts 14:1a (NLT), "The same thing happened in Iconium."

Friday... Just another day.

Now I am a routine kind of guy. At my age that is the way I remember. I find that to be a very affective way to live. So as my alarm goes off at the same time then I get up and can say, "Just another day." I'm excited and I'm ready. Now there is variety in there but also monotony. But I don't mind that. I'm excited for another day of opportunity to live.

But for some there are major difficulties. That was true of Paul and Barnabas over in the book of Acts. At the end of chapter 13 they were in Antioch of Pisidia, sharing the Good News of Christ and many were coming to accept what they were sharing but others incited a mob against them and ran then out of town. Verse 51 says, "So they shook off the dust from their feet as a sign of rejection and went to the town of Iconiam and chapter 15:1a says, "The same thing happened in Iconium." So what did they do?

Now verse 1 continues, "Paul and Barnabus went to the Jewish synagogue and preached with such power that a great number of both Jews and Greeks became believers." Verse 2, "Some of the Jews, however, spurned God's message and poisoned the minds of the Gentiles against Paul and Barnabas."

But this time they didn't shake off the dust. Yes, they did leave Antioch but they came back. That was the first place that believers were called Christians. No they didn't leave Iconium. Verses 3 says, "But the apostles stayed there a long time, preaching boldly about the grace of the Lord. And the Lord proved their message was true by giving them power to do miraculous signs and wonders." Yes, there still was division but they stayed.

God has a plan for our life. Sometime we leave when difficulties happen but sometime we stay and He uses them. What is important is that circumstances aren't what directs us but God does. Let him lead your life! Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning

Wednesday... It didn't just happen.

Psalm 16;10 (NLT), "For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave." Wednesday... It didn't just happen. We are headed into a weekend of deep emotion. One that we really really love was killed and it didn't just happen. David in Psalm 16:10 (NLT) writes of this happening. He says about God, "For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave." We read over in the Gospels at the beginning of the New Testament in the Bible of the life of God's Son who came to earth to be our sacrifice so that our soul would not be left among the dead. Jesus came so that we wouldn't have to be buried at death and just left there. But he also shares that Jesus who was going to be killed as a sacrifice for our sins would not have to rot in a grave. David many generations before foretold this and that is what happened. Now that had to be a God thing. We can guess a lot about our future and we d...

Friday... Yes, we need them. We really do

Psalm 8:3-4 (NLT), "When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers - the moon and the stars you set in place - what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?" Friday... Yes, we need them. We really do. No, not the fact that I can go out my front door and look out at night at the marvels of the sky. I can do that and it is amazing and it takes my breath away each time I see it. Yes, that is a fact but the reality of who did that and the wisdom and the faith that I have to believe that and to marvel that the one who did that cares about me makes such a difference in how I live my life. Yes, God really does. That is so wonderful for us to believe. And that is why faith and wisdom are so important. Now whatever belief you have at how that marvel happened must also be believed through faith. And the sad thing to me is that more and more people have been taught that there is no God and therefore he did not have a h...

Wednesday... Our unless can turn into useless.

Wednesday... Our unless can turn into useless.  It really can. I have found that unless I give the correct email of my wife then I can't get what I wanted. I put an extra i in her email and I have been working for 5 days to get it changed. Unless has been useless. The writer of Psalm 94 uses this word and shows how important it is. Verses 17-19 (NLT) says, "Unless the Lord had helped me, I would have soon settled in the silence of the grave. I cried out, 'I'm slipping!' but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me. When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer." "Unless the Lord had helped me." So many people go on and on and on striving to live their life on their own but they keep slipping and doubting and living without hope and cheer. Yes the Lord has such unfailing love for us, he really does but unless we have a relationship with him and we turn to him and ask him for help then the unless turns in to useless because h...
