Psalm 16;10 (NLT), "For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave."
Wednesday... It didn't just happen.
We are headed into a weekend of deep emotion. One that we really really love was killed and it didn't just happen. David in Psalm 16:10 (NLT) writes of this happening. He says about God, "For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave."
We read over in the Gospels at the beginning of the New Testament in the Bible of the life of God's Son who came to earth to be our sacrifice so that our soul would not be left among the dead. Jesus came so that we wouldn't have to be buried at death and just left there. But he also shares that Jesus who was going to be killed as a sacrifice for our sins would not have to rot in a grave. David many generations before foretold this and that is what happened.
Now that had to be a God thing. We can guess a lot about our future and we don't know the details unless someone we trust tells us. Yes, we believe that one of God's attributes is that he know what is going to happen. He is omniscient, He is all knowing.
Jesus, God's son didn't rot in a grave. He didn't even spend a night there after being killed on a cross. Even though they sealed the grave and put guards by it, Jesus had other things to do and he wasn't there and when some of his good, good friends came to take care of his body. They didn't need to because he wasn't there.
All through the Old Testament there are verses that foretell what was going to happen from Jesus birth to his death and resurrection and we can read them.
David also tells us in verses 8-9 something that is very encouraging. He writes, "I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad, and I will rejoice. My body rests in safety." Yes God is not only omniscient, he is also omnipresent. He is everywhere.
So please know that nothing in our lives just happens. You see, God is also sovereign. He may not cause it but he allows it. No matter what it is in our lives. He takes whatever bad that happens and changes the purpose from bad to good.
Yes, God knew that Jesus was going to die. The other side thought they had won but God turned it into the salvation for all if they turn their lives over to him by confessing their sins, accepting his forgiveness and ask him to come to live in their heart.
Now Luke writes in the NT in Acts 13:35-37, "Another psalm explains it more fully: 'You will not allow your Holy One to rot in the grave.' This is not in reference to David, for after David had done the will of God in his generation, he died and was buried with his ancestors, and his body decayed. No, it was a reference to someone else - someone whom God raised and whose body did not decay."
Yes, God let David know that the Holy One would not rot in the grave and it didn't happen.
This is a great week of sorrow and celebration. And it didn't just happen. God had his hand on it. It was in his plan. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
