Philippians 4:6 (NIRV), "Don't worry about anything. No matter what happens, tell God about everything. Ask and pray, and give thanks to him."
Wednesday... But there is more to it.
Our mind is a tremendous thing. There is so much that it can do but there is more to controlling situations than just using our mind. The Apostle Paul in Philippians 4:6 (NIRV) says, "Don't worry about anything." Now that is where a lot of people stop. "I'm not going to worry. I can handle this." But there is more to it.
Paul writes while a prisoner, "Don't worry about anything. No matter what happens, tell God about everything. Ask and pray, and give thanks to him." The NLT says, "Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done."
Now he does say later in verses 8b-9, "Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise." Yes it is very important what we put into our minds. Our mind is a tremendous tool that God put in us. There is a phrase that says, "Garbage in, garbage out." and we put too much garbage into our mind. That is true with our minds. That is why we must spend time in God's Word.
Now back to verse 6. There is something that we must do instead of worrying. It says, "instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done." The thanking him reminds us what he has done before., Yes, "Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done."
And verse 7 says, "Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."
And then verse 8, "And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise."
Know this, if you are in God's Word on a daily basis the Spirit of God is filing away in your mind and heart those verses that you will need in difficult times and He will bring them to your mind to give you peace.
These verses are verses that He will file away in your mind and heart to be used in difficult times and that we will be able to share with others during their difficult times.
Yes, this letter to the Philippian church is a great place to spend some time. In verses 12-13 it says, "I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret in living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ." And we with Christ can handle whatever we are facing today.
So let God's Spirit file that in your mind and heart today. Yes, "Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done." Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
