1 Thessalonians 5:14b (NLT), "Be patient with everyone."
Tuesday... Such good and practical advice.
Paul gives such good and practical advice here in 1 Thessalonians chapter 5 verse 14.
Now encouragement has different meanings for different times and different situations. There are encouraging words in the Bible that lift us up when we are going through tough times but it also means to be encouraged to do better, to try a different approach. And this verse is the second encouragement.
1 Thessalonians 5:14b encourages us to "Be patient with everyone." and that is a great encouragement but it is interesting what he says in the beginning of this verse. Now you see after you have read the beginning of this verse why he would say, "Be patient with everyone."
Here is what it encourages us to do. He says, "Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak." And then "Be patient with everyone." And for sure that is very important for us to be when it comes to people who are lazy, timid and weak.
Now verse 11a says, "So encourage each other and build each other up." But it is so easy to tear people down who are lazy, timid and weak, isn't it?
Think of your kids. Are we patient? Do we build them up or tear them down? What about your spouse or someone at work or your good friend? How does it feel when someone tears you down? How does it feel when they encourage you?
Now verse 14 in the Amplified Bible says, "We [earnestly] urge you, believers, admonish those who are out of line [the undisciplined, the unruly, the disorderly], encourage the timid [who lack spiritual courage], help the [spiritually] weak, be patient with everyone [always controlling your temper]."
And verse 11, "Therefore encourage and comfort one another and build up one another, just as you are doing." And we probably need to encourage our self, to build us up especially if we are lazy, timid and weak.
Now verses 16-18 (NLT) is very good and practical advice, "Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." And that will definitely help us to "Be patient with everyone." Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
