Monday... He really wants us to be honest.

Psalms 102:2 (NLT), "Don't turn away from me in my time of distress. Bend down to listen, and answer me quickly, when I call to you."

Monday... He really wants us to be honest.

I really love the honesty of the Psalms. Psalms 102 is a prayer of someone who is overwhelmed with trouble, and they are pouring out their problems before the LORD. Could that be some of us today?

Now verse 1 (NLT) starts out by saying. "LORD, hear my prayer! Listen to my plea!" And maybe that is where some of us need to start. Just be honest. We need God. We need help.

The Psalmist goes on in verse 2, "Don't turn away from me in my time of distress. Bend down to listen, and answer me quickly, when I call to you." We are in distress and we need help right now.

Have you ever been in a situation that you can't handle but your pride gets in the way and so many times we turn to other things instead of God. Colossians 3:5 says, "So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don't be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolator, worshiping the things of this world." So many other things come to mind to take us away from being honest with God.

Again, God really wants us to be honest that we really need Him, to turn to Him, to really ask Him for help and believe that He will help us. It is so easy for us to get sidetracked.

In our times of great distress we are tempted to do things that turn us away from God and we use so many excuses. But God wants us to be really honest with Him and turn to Him and believe that he will bend down and listen to us and answer us.

Colossians 3:15a says, "And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts." And verse 16, "Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts." Put our focus on what God through Christ has done. That will reinforce that he cares and will answer us in our distress.

So let's just be honest, "LORD, hear my prayer! Listen to my plea! Don't turn away from me in my time of distress. Bend down to listen, and answer me quickly, when I call to you." "And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts." So let's be honest that we need the LORD. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning

Thursday... Maybe we need this word today.

Psalm 57:1b (NIRV), "There I will stay until the danger is gone." Thursday... Maybe we need this word today. There are words in life that give us confidence no matter what we are facing. Now we have to believe them in order for them to have an impact. David wrote Psalm 57 while he was in a cave hiding from Saul who wanted to kill him and he says in the last part of verse 1, "There I will stay." It was a safe place and Saul didn't know that he was there. But he doesn't stop there. With confidence he said, "There I will stay until." And until is definitely a word of faith and confidence. "There I will stay until the danger is gone." Do we need that today? Let me give you the whole verse. In verse 1 David says, "Have mercy on me, God. Have mercy on me." And that is a great place to start in times of trouble. Maybe that is what we need to pray today, "Have mercy on me, God. Have mercy on me." It is so great to have someone...

Tuesday... We just have trouble listening.

1 Corinthians 13:7 (NLT), "Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance." Tuesday... We just have trouble listening. Over in Jeremiah 25:4 (NLT) it says, "Again and again the LORD has sent you his servants, the prophets, but you have not listened or even paid attention." And Jeremiah went on to tell what was going to happen. There will be consequences if we do not listen to what God says through his Word. Now the Apostle Paul over in 1 Corinthians was having a problem with some professed Christ followers who were having trouble at listening. And we too can have problems at listening. We can think that being a Christ follower means we do a lot of finger pointing and we give up on people who don't do what we say. We can even do that in our families. But Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 13:7 (NLT), "Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance." In verse ...

Thursday... Yet, now this is true.

Colossians 1:22a (NLT), "Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body." Thursday... Yet, now this is true. Now Paul a prisoner in Rome is writing a letter to a church in Colossae. And in Colossians 1:21 (MSG) he says, "Once you were alienated from God and were hostile in your minds, engaging in evil deeds" The NLT says "This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated by your evil thoughts and actions." And that is where so many in this world live today. They are blowing it and they don't know what to do. Yes, they are hostile in their minds and they are engaging in evil deeds but there is Good News. Now Paul in verses 19-20 sets the stage for an answer to those who don't want to live that way. He says, "For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and earth b...
