Jeremiah 14:22 (NLT), "Can any of the worthless foreign god's send us rain? Does it fall from the sky by itself? No, you are the one, O LORD our God! Only you can do such things. So we will wait for you to help us."
Friday... Yes, he can so let's wait.
Yes, waiting is so difficult. Now Jeremiah in chapter 14 asks some questions that I know in our honesty we sometimes have and we maybe have now. In verse 19a he writes, "LORD, have you completely rejected Judah? Do you really hate Jerusalem?" Yes, the words rejection and hate can come up in waiting. It sounds a lot like our kids and also us when we were kids when the parents didn't give them and us what we wanted. Yes waiting can be tough.
And here is something else that they come up with and if we are honest, what we have too. Verse 21a says, "For the sake of your reputation, LORD, do not abandon us. Do not disgrace your own throne." Two words, reputation and disgrace. It is so hard to wait. It really is.
Verse 22b "you are the one, O LORD our God! Only you can do such things. So we will wait for you to help us."
How many times in the Doctor's office do we go to the desk and say such things? We really do think that we are so important.
And then Jeremiah changes his focus from me to God. He changes his perspective. In verse 22 he writes,"Can any of the worthless foreign god's send us rain? Does it fall from the sky by itself? No, you are the one, O LORD our God! Only you can do such things. So we will wait for you to help us."
And that is such a great sentence, "So we will wait for you to help us." Maybe that is what we needed reinforced in us today. "So we will wait for you to help us." That is faith, that is trust, and that is acknowledging who is in control and who knows best and who is the LORD.
Verse 22 in the Amplified Bible says, "Are there any among the nations who can send rain? Or can the heavens [of their own will] give showers? Is it not You, O LORD our God? Therefore we will wait and hope [confidently] in You, for You are the one who had made all these things [the heavens and the rain]."
Yes, we need to be reminded of who we are waiting on? "Therefore we will wait and hope [confidently] in You." Yes the LORD can, so let's wait. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
