Wednesday... Now this hope doesn't disappoint.

There can be so much out there that we hope for. What is your major hope for today? What is the major hope for your life? Did you wake up today with a hope?


I had a guy at my coffee shop say they liked my Los Angeles Dodgers hat. I got two new ones for my birthday. That is all I ever hope for so I am always rewarded. Now that of course is not a major hope. What if my kids bought me something else? I would be glad for whatever it is because my kids got it for me. But I am glad to get a new Dodgers hat.

Sometimes we are very disappointed when we don't get what we hope for. A lot of people were really disappointed when their soccer team didn't win the World Cup. Only one nation got what they hoped for. There were a lot of tears at the end of that last match.

The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Romans says something that is really encouraging. In Romans 5:5a (NLT) he writes, "And this hope will not lead to disappointment." And that isn't for sure true of every hope, is it?

Now this hope is not just a passing hope. Verse 2 says, "Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God's glory."

He says, there is a hope that is an undeserved privilege. In truth what Christ did for us is definitely an undeserved privilege. Verse 1 says, "Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us." We didn't deserve what He did for us. But Paul goes on.

And this is very interesting. Verses 3-5a says, "We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment." And 5b says, "For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our heart with his love."

Now this is a hope that will not disappoint. Verse 11 says, "So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God." And for sure that is an undeserved privilege.

Yes, so many of our hopes lead to disappointment but not this hope.

Again, "We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment."

And that is the truth. It will not lead to disappointment. Yes, our confident hope of salvation will not disappoint. So let's give him our life and accept his salvation. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning

Friday... Yes, we can know this to be true.

Psalm 12:6 (NLT), "The Lord's promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over." Friday... Yes, we can know this to be true. Maybe this is what you want to say in this day in which we live. Psalm 12:1-2 (MSG) says, "Quick, I need your helping hand! The last decent person just went down, all the friends I depend on gone. Everyone talks in lie language; lies slide off their oily lips. They doubletalk with forked tongues." Do you ever feel that way?" Have you found that to be true? Well David the writer of this Psalm continues and says in verse 6 something to encourage us, to lift us up, to give us hope. Psalm 12:6 (NLT) says, "The Lord's promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over." Friday... So what is it that you really fear?

1 Corinthians 15:57 (NLT), "But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ." Friday... So what is it that you really fear? Yes, fear holds us back. It seems to take hold of us so that we can't even really enjoy living. Now I have found that one of the best ways to handle fear is to solve the problem of what we fear. Let's say that death is what we really fear. Everyday we wake up afraid to get up because we are afraid to do anything because we are afraid to die. And that is so understandable.
