Acts 5:39 (NLT), "But if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even find yourself fighting against God!"
Friday... But are we right?
It is so easy for us as individuals to believe that we are right and they are wrong, especially in the Christian world. There is so much negativity on the internet even from Christians."
The Jewish religious leaders of course were the ones who killed Jesus and they believed they were right and here in the book of Acts they were having problems with Jesus' apostles who had taken up spreading the message of Jesus and his kingdom. They had thrown them in prison and they were talking about killing them and here one of the Jewish leaders gave some good advise. In Acts 5:38-39, Gamaliel said, "So my advice is, leave these men alone. Let them go. If they are planning and doing these things merely on their own, it will soon be overthrown. But if it is from God, you will be not be able to overthrow them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God." Very good advice even in the day in which we live.
I know there is a place to show where people are wrong but I feel that we need to be careful. I love the Good News of the gospel and to be filled with God's Spirit but I get tired of all the negativity that people seemed to be called to give. Now there is my negativity coming out. It is so easy to have, isn't it?
Now here is the key that we really need to live by. "But if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even find yourself fighting against God!" Now that is great advice. God knows what he is doing and He has given us His Word and His Spirit so let's be cautious in our negativity.
Peter says in Verses 30-32, "The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead after you killed him by hanging him on a cross. Then God put him in the place of honor at the right hand as Prince and Savior. He did this so people of Israel would repent of their sins and be forgiven. We are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, who is given by God to those who obey him."
We need as the church to be careful in our being critical and pointing fingers. "You may even find yourself fighting against God!"
He has given us His Word and His Spirit to lead us and guide us. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
