Psalm 142:3 (NLT), "When I am overwhelmed, you alone know the way I should turn. Wherever I go my enemies set traps for me."
Thursday... There are so many different personalities.
There really are. And our tendency is to build up who we are and put down those who are different but I believe God sees and accepts each one of us in our differences.
The writer of the book of Psalms, David was a man after God's own heart and he was a musician and a warrior and usually those don't go together. Yes, David was unique but so are you and I and probably your mate is different from you. Yes, God made us unique and He really does love each one of us.
Yes, David wrote a big portion of the Psalms and it shows his uniqueness. Psalm 142:3 (NLT) says, "When I am overwhelmed, you alone know the way I should turn. Wherever I go my enemies set traps for me." Now, there are some who would say that they don't understand how that feels. They are never overwhelmed and they never believe there are traps set for them. There is nothing that gets in their way. And they say, "I don't need God, I have and will take care of whatever is ahead." But their life isn't over.
Now it is so important for us to realize that there will be times that we are overwhelmed and this self -reliance can be a trap that is set for those who believe their life is under control. I love the Psalms because it tells what life is all about and how to handle it.
Yes there are so many different personalities but there is only one God and we all need Him. Yes we do and we need each other no matter their personality.
Verse 4 says, "I look for someone to come and help me, but no one gives me a passing thought!" Is that us? Do we do that with others? That is not what God wants out of us. We are not in the put down and bypass business, we are in the lifting up and accepting business. Your mate needs you, your kids need you, your neighbor needs you, your parents and brother and sister needs you and God needs you. And we for sure need God whether we believe it or not.
Here is what the musician/warrior says when he is overwhelmed and feels trapped. Verses 5-6 says, "Then I pray to you, O LORD. I say, 'You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life. Hear my cry, for I am very low. Rescue me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me.'" And then 7b says, "The godly will crowd around me, for you are good to me."
And God wants to use us. Let's not bypass or put down but be ready to crowd around those who need us. We too at some point may be overwhelmed and need help and as we turn to God He will turn to us and could turn to others to help. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
