Wednesday... I love this. It was one of my firsts.
I love Psalm 1, it was the first chapter in the Bible I memorized. And that was a big deal for me. Memory is not one of my strengths but it was worth the effort because it has stayed with me all of these years.
Now I memorized it in the King James Version with it's walketh and sitteth. I now spend time in more than one version which opens up new visions of what it means.
Look at this. Verses 1-2 in The Amplified Bible says, "Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked [following their advice and example], nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit [down to rest] in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers). And on His law [His precepts and teachings] he [habitually] meditates day and night."
Some would say, "I don't know how to meditate." And Pastor Rick Warren said, "If you know how to worry you know how to meditate" and that is so true. We will be blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] if we meditate on His precepts and teachings.
Now The Message Paraphrase puts it this way, "How well God must like you - you don't walk in the ruts of those blind-as-bats, you don't stand with the good-for-nothings, you don't take your seat among the know-it-alls. Instead you thrill to God's Word, you chew on Scripture day and night."
And then the King James Version, "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night."
I love God's word. I really do. So let's habitually meditate and chew on it. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
