Wednesday... When will we? Maybe this is the year.
The writer of Psalm 94 gets to the point. In verse 8 (NIV) he asks a very good question which is a good question here at the beginning of 2023. He says, "Take notice, you senseless ones among the people; you fools, when will you become wise?" The NLT says it this way, "When will you finally catch on?" The Message says, "When will you get smart?" Good, good question for us here at the beginning of this new year. Maybe this is the year.
And then he lays it out for us in verse 9. He says, "Does he who fashioned the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see?" We live as if we created ourselves, that it is all on us. But it isn't.
Over in Proverbs 4:10-13 the writer writes, "My child, listen to me and do as I say. and you will have a long, good life. I will teach you wisdom's ways and lead you in straight paths. When you walk, you won't be held back; when you run, you won't stumble. Take hold of my instructions; don't let them go. Guard them, for they are the key to life."
Verses 20-22, "My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don't lose sight of them." By the way, He created your ears and your eyes. "Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body."
Maybe this will be the year when we really catch on to what is important.
