1 Corinthians 8:2-3 (NLT), "Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn't really know very much. But the person who loves God is the one whom God recognizes."
Tuesday... Yes, we think this is so important.
We live in a world where knowledge is so important. We want to have all the answers and when something comes up where there is a question we want to be there with the answer or at least our opinion from our knowledge. And this can be a problem the older we get. But Paul in writing 1 Corinthians 8 says in verses 2-3 (NLT), "Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn't really know very much. But the person who loves God is the one whom God recognizes."
Now in verse 1b he says, "But while knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church." And that is also true in a family or at work or with friends. But it makes us feel so important when we are the answer person.
Yes, knowledge with wisdom is important but how we share and when we give it is so important.
I am finding this to be a problem for me personally as I get older. I am always so ready with old person knowledge and answers.
My dad had a phrase that has stayed with me and I wish that I lived by it. He said, "Advice not asked for stinks." It really does. Knowledge is important but what the world really needs is love.
Now giving knowledge and them not accepting it can hurt our feelings but not love, real love.
Yes, we do need to spend time in learning and sharing. It is not an either or but a how. Psalm 48 shows how we start. Verse 9 says, "O God, we meditate on your unfailing love as we worship in your Temple." That is where we start and that needs to be one of the most important facts that we need to know and share and live. Over and over in the Psalms it tells of God's unfailing love.
And back to 1 Corinthians, "Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn't really know very much. But the person who loves God is the one whom God recognizes."
Verses 1b-3 in The Amplified Bible says, "Knowledge [alone] makes [people self-righteously] arrogant, but love [that unselfishly seeks the best for others] builds up and encourages others to grow [in wisdom]. If anyone imagines that he knows and understands anything [of divine matters, without love], he has not yet known as he ought to know. But if anyone loves God [with awe-filled reverence, obedience and gratitude], he is known by Him [as His very own and is greatly loved]."
And the fact that God loves us is so important for us to know and share. John 3:16 (NIV) says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." And knowing that is so, so very important and needs to be shared in word and action. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
