Psalm 102:2b (NLT), "And answer me quickly when I call to you."
Tuesday... It really does get in the way.
I arrived at my coffee shop, Aspire, a little earlier today. I got my normal table but I had to wait in line to get my coffee and I'll be honest, I can have a problem at waiting. When I finally got my coffee and sat down I started thinking about my response inside that I had to wait and it came to me how much pride I have and of how it gets in the way. Yes, pride gets in the way of our enjoying life.
I got my coffee and then started reading Psalm 102:1-2. Here is what it says, "LORD, hear my prayer! Listen to my plea!" Notice that both sentences end with exclamation marks.
Verse 2 goes on, "Don't turn away from me in my time of distress. Bend down to listen, and answer me quickly when I call to you." Notice in these 2 verses there are 3 my's, two me's and one I.
I was thinking back to yesterday morning. Down at the corner before my coffee shop I came upon a three car wreck and one of the cars was turned over on its roof. If I had gone just a little faster, I could have been in that wreck. We are in such a hurry and it can be because we think we are so important.
Now I also read today over in John 3:16-17, "For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him."
Yes, we are very important to God and yes He sent his Son to die for us. Yes, we are important to him but we must be very careful about the I's, the me's and the my's of our life. Pride really can get in the way.
Now, we may be in a situation where we do need to pray emphatically and not necessarily from pride. We need help right now at least we think we do but God sees what is really happening and he may be teaching us and protecting us and we must trust him. Of course prayer is the first place to start in our desperation but we cannot let pride get in the way.
You see, God really does love us to the point that he gave his only Son to die for us but he also knows what is happening. And pride does get in the way of our trusting him. It really does.
Isaiah wrote in 12:2, "See, God has come to save me, I will trust in him and not be afraid. The LORD God is my strength and my song; he has given me victory."
Now coming to God out of fear is different than coming to him out of pride. Yes, "God has come to save me, I will trust in him and not be afraid" and he will give us the victory. So do I have pride because I am victorious? No I have confidence because "God is my strength and my song,"
You see, trust is the way to victory. So call on him. He really does love you. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
