Psalm 86:3 (NLT), "Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I am calling on you constantly."
Wednesday... We can keep at it constantly.
Have you ever been around someone who is constantly talking? It seems they never stop. So how do we handle that?
Well David says in Psalm 86:3 (NLT), "Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I am calling on you constantly." And mercy is a great thing to have when someone needs to talk. Now from our perspective we do need to have mercy for others who are always talking and because that is true of us then we think that God needs it for us when we never stop calling on him.
Yes, God has a different attitude than we do. Over in the New Testament book of 1 Thessalonians in 5:16-18 it says, "Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." And that is a great thing to realize.
You see, praying or calling on God doesn't need to just be asking. There is a part of praying that is asking God to meet our needs, yes. But praising God, always being joyful, and being thankful in all circumstances can be and needs to be a part of our connecting with God. And we can never stop doing that.
Now the world has set aside one day to be thankful but God wants us to always be thankful no matter what is happening to us. It can change our attitude in whatever we are going through. Yes we can also constantly be thanking God.
David goes on in Psalm 86. In verse 4 he writes, "Give me happiness, O Lord, for I give myself to you." We can ask for that constantly because we need it in this world in which we live.
Verse 5 says, "O Lord you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask you for help." Listen, when we blow it we don't need to wait until we get to church to confess and ask God to forgive us. He is always ready to forgive and he is always ready to help us because of his unfailing love. No matter what.
Verses 6 & 7 says, "Listen closely to my prayer, O LORD; hear my urgent cry. I will call to you whenever I'm in trouble, and you will answer me." The Message says, "Every time I'm in trouble I call on you, confident that you'll answer." Yes, everytime, not sometimes, everytime and we can be confident. Yes we can be confident.
The New International Reader's Version says verses 3-4 this way. "Lord have mercy on me. I call out to you all day long. Bring joy to me. Lord, I put my trust in You." Yes, we can keep at it constantly because we put our trust in our Lord! Yes, yes #todaysbeginning
