Psalm 40:1 (NLT), "I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry."
Friday... Waiting has its place in faith.
If everything happened in our time frame then we wouldn't need faith. We would just do it. But that is not the way that life happens.
David was a great powerful king and he wrote Psalm 40 and in verse 1 he writes, "I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry." Here was this great powerful king who during a difficult time patiently waited for the Lord to help him. And he knew he would.
So what about us? We have a tendency to believe that no matter what we are facing, it is up to us and even if we have turned to God then we want it done now. But King David said, "I waited patiently for the Lord to help me."
Again, what about us? Have we been facing a situation and we have done all that we can and it still hasn't happened the way we think it needs to happen and then we read this Psalm by King David and it starts by saying, "I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry." And we just happen to read the whole verse, "and he turned to me and heard my cry." But he doesn't stop there.
Verse 2 says, "He lifted me out of the pit of despair." That's the first thing that needs to happen. When it is all up to me and it doesn't start turning the way we want it to, there is a tendency for us to get into despair. That is also true if I have turned to God and I didn't have patience and faith.
David goes on. Here is what God does, "He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He sets my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walk along." We have to get out of the mud that we got ourselves into so "he sets my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walk along." And that really does help. That muddy despair can be a mess and we really do need to get out of it, to get on solid ground and get steadied so we can walk.
He goes on in verse 3, "He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God." Yes, we need that. We really do. A song of praise is a great way to get going. It is a focus thing off of what we have been facing onto our God and a song of praise is a great way to do that.
And then the purpose comes into view, "Many will see what he has done and be amazed, They will put their trust in the Lord."
And then verse 4a, "Oh, the joy of those who trust in the LORD." And then verse 5, "O LORD, my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deed, I would never come to the end of them."
Yes, waiting patiently has its place in our living by faith. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
