Isaiah 53:9 (NLT), "He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man's grave."
Wednesday... We judge by what we see.
That is so true in much of our life. What we see must be the truth but is it?
Romans 4:18 says, "Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping - believing that he would be the father of many nations. For God had said to him, 'That's how many descendants you will have!'" Ok God said it but as we follow Abraham there is a problem. Verse 19, "And Abraham's faith did not weaken, even though his body was as good as dead - and so was Sarah's womb." No way was this going to happen because they had no children and they were old." And we would have been wrong if we judged by what we saw.
Verse 20, "Abraham never wavered in believing God's promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God." He didn't judge by what he saw.
Here is another happening. Over in Isaiah 53:7 it says, "He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter and as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth." We would judge him as being weak. And verse 9 gives us more to judge him by. It says, "He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man's grave." The truth was he was going to be crucified as a criminal so as we see this happening then we would judge him to be a criminal. And we do that over and over. We judge by what we see. But there is more to this story.
Back to Romans 4. Verses 22-25 connect these two situations. It says, "And because of Abraham's faith, God counted him as righteous. And when God counted him as righteous, it wasn't just for Abraham's benefit. It was recorded for our benefit too, assuring us that God will also count us as righteous if we believe in him, the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God."
It isn't all in what we see. By the way, Abraham and Sarah had a boy when they were old and the one who was killed on a cross wasn't a criminal. He was God's Son whom Isaiah told us about and who was killed for our sins and was brought back to life.
Let's put our trust not in what we see but in God who sees the whole picture. Just tell God right now, "I give you my life." Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
