Wednesday... But do we really believe?

Acts 12:5 (NLT), "But while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him."

Wednesday... But do we really believe?

That is a very important question. When we pray it may just be what we have been told to do. Yes, the important question is, do we really believe?

Now Herod the evil king began to persecute some believers in the church. He even killed the apostle James and he found that it pleased the Jewish people so he also arrested Peter. And Acts 12:5 says, "But while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him." That is what we Christians do but do we really believe?

Now in prison Peter was fastened with two chains between two soldiers and verse 7 says, "Suddenly, there was a bright light, and an angel of the Lord stood before Peter. The angel struck him on the side to awaken him and said, 'Quick! Get up!' And the chains fell off his wrists." He then got dressed and Peter left the cell, following the angel. Verse 9b says, "But all the time he thought it was a vision. He didn't realize it was actually happening." And when he finally was walking on the street, verse 11a says, "'Peter finally came to his senses. It's really true!"

So he headed to one of the places where he knew the church was very earnestly praying for him. Verses 13-14, "He knocked at the door on the gate, and a servant girl named Rhoda came to open it. When she recognized Peter's voice, she was so overjoyed that, instead of opening the door, she ran back inside and told everyone, 'Peter is standing at the door!'" Verse 15 "'You're out of your mind!'' they said. When she insisted, they decided, 'It must be an angel.'"

But do we really believe? We earnestly pray but we really don't believe and if we get the answer we give credit to everything else instead of God.

Isaiah 25:1 says, "O Lord, I will honor and praise your name, for you are my God. You do such wonderful things! You planned them long ago, and now you have accomplished them."

Verses 16-17a, "Meanwhile, Peter continued knocking. When they finally opened the door and saw him, they were amazed. He motioned for them to quiet down and told how the Lord had led him out of prison." Their prayers really were answered by God.

So let's really believe and then give him the credit. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning

Friday... Yes, we need them. We really do

Psalm 8:3-4 (NLT), "When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers - the moon and the stars you set in place - what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?" Friday... Yes, we need them. We really do. No, not the fact that I can go out my front door and look out at night at the marvels of the sky. I can do that and it is amazing and it takes my breath away each time I see it. Yes, that is a fact but the reality of who did that and the wisdom and the faith that I have to believe that and to marvel that the one who did that cares about me makes such a difference in how I live my life. Yes, God really does. That is so wonderful for us to believe. And that is why faith and wisdom are so important. Now whatever belief you have at how that marvel happened must also be believed through faith. And the sad thing to me is that more and more people have been taught that there is no God and therefore he did not have a h...

Wednesday... It didn't just happen.

Psalm 16;10 (NLT), "For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave." Wednesday... It didn't just happen. We are headed into a weekend of deep emotion. One that we really really love was killed and it didn't just happen. David in Psalm 16:10 (NLT) writes of this happening. He says about God, "For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave." We read over in the Gospels at the beginning of the New Testament in the Bible of the life of God's Son who came to earth to be our sacrifice so that our soul would not be left among the dead. Jesus came so that we wouldn't have to be buried at death and just left there. But he also shares that Jesus who was going to be killed as a sacrifice for our sins would not have to rot in a grave. David many generations before foretold this and that is what happened. Now that had to be a God thing. We can guess a lot about our future and we d...

Wednesday... Our unless can turn into useless.

Wednesday... Our unless can turn into useless.  It really can. I have found that unless I give the correct email of my wife then I can't get what I wanted. I put an extra i in her email and I have been working for 5 days to get it changed. Unless has been useless. The writer of Psalm 94 uses this word and shows how important it is. Verses 17-19 (NLT) says, "Unless the Lord had helped me, I would have soon settled in the silence of the grave. I cried out, 'I'm slipping!' but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me. When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer." "Unless the Lord had helped me." So many people go on and on and on striving to live their life on their own but they keep slipping and doubting and living without hope and cheer. Yes the Lord has such unfailing love for us, he really does but unless we have a relationship with him and we turn to him and ask him for help then the unless turns in to useless because h...
