Psalm 51:12 (NLT), "Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you."
Wednesday... This is so good!
There are so many prayers that we pray. So many of them are about trouble that we are in and those are very productive prayers. God does want us to reach out to him when we are in trouble and he will rescue us. But David had a prayer that he prayed here in Psalm 51 that we all it seems need to pray in the day in which we are now living.
He prayed in Psalm 51:12 (NLT), "Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you." Yes we have one of those moments of joy around Christmas but the rest of the time we are discouraged and out doing our own thing which can rob us of joy.
Now joy does come from God. He is the supplier of joy for he gives us salvation from all the sins that have crept into our world, into our lives. And that was true of David.
He says in verse 7, "Purify me from my sins, and make me clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me - now let me rejoice." Yes there is so much in our lives that need to be broken and cleaned up. "Oh, give me back my joy again."
Verse 7 in the Amplified Bible says, "Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean." Now hyssop evidently was a bristly plant which was useful as a kind of brush. This cleaning up can be difficult but it will be so worth it. It will make such a difference in our lives.
Back to verse 12, "Restore to me the joy of your salvation, make me willing to obey you." And that is where the joy comes in. Verse 13 continues, "Then I will teach your ways to rebels, and they will return to you."
So have you rebelled against obeying God and maybe you are wondering where your joy has gone? Just turn to God and pray this prayer, "Restore to me the joy of your salvation, make me willing to obey you."
Maybe you don't realize how good this is. But it is. It really is. Yes, yes #todaysbeginning
