John 9:25 (NLT), "'I don't know whether he was a sinner,' the man replied. 'But I know this: I was blind and now I see!"
Thursday... Our beliefs control us.
It doesn't matter if they are true or not, our beliefs control us.
John 9 starts in verse 1 (NLT) by saying, "As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth." Verses 6-7 says, "Then he spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man's eyes. He told him, 'Go wash yourself in the Pool of Siloam' (Siloam means 'sent'). So the man went and washed and came back seeing."
There must have been something about all that happened for the blind man to do what the man he didn't know told him to do. He showed his belief by doing what he told him to do. And he was rewarded for his belief.
Now the blind man was taken to the Pharisees who were the religious leaders of the day. They had a belief that controlled them. This miracle was done on the Sabbath and they believed that this should not have been done on the Sabbath. This belief controlled there response to this miracle. Verse 24 says, "So for the second time they called in the man who had been blind and told him, "God should get glory for this, because we know this man Jesus is a sinner.'" And that belief controlled there reaction to anything Jesus said or did. Even to the point that they eventually killed him.
Their belief controlled their reaction to anything Jesus said or did.
Now I believe in God and I believe that Jesus was and is God's Son and that he came to earth to die for us so that we might live. So my belief in God and accepting the gift of life through Jesus death controls my life. That's why I spend time each day reading the Bible, connecting with God through prayer and obeying what he tells me to do. My belief controls me.
King David says in Psalm 52:8-9 (AMP), "But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust [confidently] in the lovingkindness of God forever and ever. I will thank You forever, because You have done it, [You have rescued me and kept me safe]. I will wait on Your name, for it is good, in the presence of Your godly ones."
Yes, our beliefs control us so it is imperative that we believe and "trust [confidently] in the lovingkindness of God forever and ever.." And He wants to and will rescue us and keep us safe. Yes, our beliefs control us. Yes, yes, #todaysbeginning
