Luke 18:42a (NLT), "And Jesus said, 'All right."
Thursday... All right, ok, let's do it!
Have you ever faced a difficult situation and you go to someone close to you and you ask them to do something specific and the relief you feel when they say, "All right, ok, let's do it"?
Now most of the time we don't ask. We don't even give them a chance to answer. We don't want to be disappointed like we have been so many other times. But the key is, you ask.
Over in Luke 18 we find Jesus approaching the town of Jericho and there was a blind man sitting there by the side of the road. Now when this blind man heard the noise he asked someone what was going on and they told him that Jesus was going by. Verse 38 (NLT) says, "So he began shouting, 'Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!'" And then verse 39 says, "'Be quiet!' the people in the front yelled at him."
It is so important for us to humble ourselves and ask. I am not a good asker. It is hard for me to ask even my family for help. There is this thing called pride that gets in the way of asking for help. Yes, we may get an look of annoyance but maybe not. We may get an "All right, ok, let's do it." But we need to ask.
Oh this guy heard their annoyance but he asked anyway. Now his first ask was for mercy. He wanted mercy. Verse 38 in The Message says, "He yelled, 'Jesus! Son of David! Mercy, have mercy on me!'"
And he got Jesus attention. God is right beside us and he wants to be apart of all aspects of our lives but he won't push his way in. He waits on us to let go of our pride and our lack of faith and to ask him for help.
Now verses 40-41 (NLT) says, "When Jesus heard him, he stopped and ordered that the man be brought to him. As the man came near, Jesus asked him, 'What do you want me to do for you?'" And mercy wasn't his answer. He goes right to his need, "'Lord,' he said, 'I want to see.'" And verse 42a says, "And Jesus said, 'All right." All right, let's do it. I'm glad you asked. Jesus wants to be in our life. And as verse 27 says, "What is impossible for people is possible with God."
So what impossible situation in our lives do we need to ask God for help?
Verses 42-43 says, "And Jesus said, 'All right, receive you sight! Your faith has healed you.' Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus, praising God. And all who saw it praised God, too."
And I'm sure those people were glad that the blind man didn't do what they said. And I know that the blind man was also glad and I know that Jesus also was glad. And God wants to say to us, "All, right, ok, let's do it." Just have faith and ask. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
