Tuesday... They show us how to handle our difficult times.

Psalms 22:26 (NLT), "The poor will eat and be satisfied. All who seek the Lord will praise him. Their hearts will rejoice with everlasting joy."

Tuesday... They show us how to handle our difficult times.

We with our different personalities start our days differently. But the Psalms show us that we don't have to stay where we start our days.

Some have difficulty starting their days with any hope. Despair is the way they start. David in Psalm 22:1-2 starts this Psalm by saying, "My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far away when I groan for help? Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer. Every night I lift my voice, but I find no relief." Maybe that is how you start your day. I love the honesty of the Psalms.

Down in verses 16-18 we read, "My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs; an evil gang closes in on me. They pierced my hands and feet. I can count all my bones. My enemies stare at me and gloat. They divide my garments among themselves and throw dice for all my clothing." Here David is prophesying what Jesus went through when he was on the cross. and of how he had a reason for despair and no hope. Yes, we may have a reason for starting our day with despair but we don't have to stay there. But it helps to see how Jesus could have felt.

But David doesn't stop there. In verses he 23 says, "Praise the Lord, all you who fear him! Honor him, all you descendants of Jacob! Show him reverence, all you descendents of Israel!" David changes his focus. Verse 24 says, "For he has not turned his back on them, but has listened to their cries for help." And then verse 26, "The poor will eat and be satisfied.  All who seek the Lord will praise him. Their hearts will rejoice with everlasting joy.''

I love the Psalms. We don't have to stay in our despair with our negative attitudes. We can have hope by changing our focus.

And the last verse of this Psalm says about Jesus, "His righteous acts will be told to those who are not yet born. They will hear about everything he has done." Yes, Jesus is our example. He came and died for us so that we might have life, life abundantly. And he sent his Spirit to guide us and strengthen us. So let's lift our focus from despair to hope by praising him. and then rejoice with everlasting joy. I love the book of Psalms. Yes, yes!  #todaysbeginning

Friday... Yes, we need them. We really do

Psalm 8:3-4 (NLT), "When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers - the moon and the stars you set in place - what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?" Friday... Yes, we need them. We really do. No, not the fact that I can go out my front door and look out at night at the marvels of the sky. I can do that and it is amazing and it takes my breath away each time I see it. Yes, that is a fact but the reality of who did that and the wisdom and the faith that I have to believe that and to marvel that the one who did that cares about me makes such a difference in how I live my life. Yes, God really does. That is so wonderful for us to believe. And that is why faith and wisdom are so important. Now whatever belief you have at how that marvel happened must also be believed through faith. And the sad thing to me is that more and more people have been taught that there is no God and therefore he did not have a h...

Wednesday... Our unless can turn into useless.

Wednesday... Our unless can turn into useless.  It really can. I have found that unless I give the correct email of my wife then I can't get what I wanted. I put an extra i in her email and I have been working for 5 days to get it changed. Unless has been useless. The writer of Psalm 94 uses this word and shows how important it is. Verses 17-19 (NLT) says, "Unless the Lord had helped me, I would have soon settled in the silence of the grave. I cried out, 'I'm slipping!' but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me. When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer." "Unless the Lord had helped me." So many people go on and on and on striving to live their life on their own but they keep slipping and doubting and living without hope and cheer. Yes the Lord has such unfailing love for us, he really does but unless we have a relationship with him and we turn to him and ask him for help then the unless turns in to useless because h...

Wednesday... It didn't just happen.

Psalm 16;10 (NLT), "For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave." Wednesday... It didn't just happen. We are headed into a weekend of deep emotion. One that we really really love was killed and it didn't just happen. David in Psalm 16:10 (NLT) writes of this happening. He says about God, "For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave." We read over in the Gospels at the beginning of the New Testament in the Bible of the life of God's Son who came to earth to be our sacrifice so that our soul would not be left among the dead. Jesus came so that we wouldn't have to be buried at death and just left there. But he also shares that Jesus who was going to be killed as a sacrifice for our sins would not have to rot in a grave. David many generations before foretold this and that is what happened. Now that had to be a God thing. We can guess a lot about our future and we d...
