Mark 15:5 (NLT), "But Jesus said nothing, much to Pilate's surprise."
Friday... But we need to be in control.
At least, we think that is best. In difficult situations we want to have control, don't we? That is the best thing, isn't it?
I am reading in the gospel of Mark of Peter's perspective of Jesus' life. Now Peter was one who wanted to be in control and usually he had something to say so this was an interesting view of how Jesus handled a very difficult situation.
Yes, Jesus had spent time in prayer before he was arrested. Through prayer he had given control over to God and that is always a wise thing for us to do. We don't always need to be in control.
Now the Jewish religious leaders who had major conflict with Jesus and what he taught had arrested him and now they had sent Jesus to Pilate the Roman governor who was in control and it seemed that this was a great time for Jesus to plead his case. But Mark 15:5 (NLT) says, "But Jesus said nothing, much to Pilate's surprise." And Jesus knew what he was doing. He was giving God and wisdom control over what was happening.
Psalm 4:4 says, "Don't let anger control you. Think about it over night and remain silent."
Yes, the battle of what was going to happen to Jesus was waged the night before in the Garden of Gethsemane in prayer with his Father. And was won when Jesus prayed in Mark 14:36, "'Abba, Father,' he cried out, 'everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.'"
Jesus had asked his disciples to pray with him but he found them asleep and he said in verse 38, "Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is week."
Yes, there are battles that we must fight but the major one is fought through prayer and if there are words to be said then wisdom from God's Word and His Spirit will guide us.
Proverbs 4:5-6 says, "Get wisdom; develop good judgement. Don't forget my words or turn away from them. Don't turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you. Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgement."
Yes our battles are won by connecting to God through prayer and through His Word.
We don't always need to be in control. Proverbs 3:6 says, "Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."
Of course Jesus even during this difficult situation had words to say but at this time with this person, "But Jesus said nothing, much to Pilate's surprise." And that was the wisest thing to do.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take." "Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
