Thursday... It is coming so what are we going to do?

Psalm 56:3 (NLT), "But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you."

Thursday... It is coming so what are we going to do?

Now, we do have a day or two to look back. It has been an interesting year. A lot has happened in our life and it can be easy for us to look forward to 2025 with some fear. As I faced this last year, 2024, there is no way that I would have seen what was going to happen and I'm sure that is true this next year. So what emotions do you have? In there I'm sure there can be some fear. The unknown does that.

In my daily reading I came upon this verse that King David wrote. Psalm 56:3 (NLT) says, "But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you." I'm sure we all may need that verse as we face the unknown of 2025.

Now when we look back and see the difficult things that happened we also as a Christ follower must look at how God has made such a difference in those fearful times that came upon us. Not sure that I want to go through them again but there are things that we learned in them. God uses these experiences is such a great way.

David goes on in verse 4.  He says, "I praise God for what he has promised." And that is so important to do. If we have put our trust in God and the promises he has given to us as we have spent time in God's Word, the Bible, we will see how he has brought us through those fears with confidence and he has changed us in them. Praising him builds confidence as we face the unknown of another year.

David goes on, "I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?" Good question.

I am also reading Revelation in my reading time and I have found that we will win. We are on the winning side. Yes, this is a testing time but it will be worth it.

I'm also reading in the book of Genesis and seeing all the troubles that Isaac went through but God at key times would stop him and let him know what he had promised his dad, Abraham and that he promised the same to him and as I keep reading I see how mere mortals couldn't keep God's promises from happening.

It seems that Isaac was having problems with the wells he was digging. Others would come and fill them up or take them from him. In 26:21a it says, "Isaac's men then dug another well. but again there was a dispute over it." Verse 22, "Abandoning that one, Isaac moved on and dug another well. This time there was no dispute over it."

Verses 23-25 says, "From there Isaac move to Beersheba where the Lord appeared to him on the night of his arrival. 'I am the God of your father, Abraham,' he said. 'Do not be afraid, for I am with you and will bless you. I will multiply your descendants, and they will become a great nation. I will do this because of my promise to Abraham, my servant.' Then Isaac built an altar there and worshiped the Lord. He set up his camp at that place, and his servants dug another well."

Later, David says in Psalm 56:8a, "You keep track of all my sorrows." And then verses 9-11, "My enemies will retreat when I call on you for help. This I know: God is on my side! I praise God for what he has promised; yes, I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me"

So don't give up. Trust God and his promises. Maybe you just need to keep digging those wells, just keep at it. Yes, a new year and "I trust in God, so why should I be afraid." Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning

Friday... Yes, we need them. We really do

Psalm 8:3-4 (NLT), "When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers - the moon and the stars you set in place - what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?" Friday... Yes, we need them. We really do. No, not the fact that I can go out my front door and look out at night at the marvels of the sky. I can do that and it is amazing and it takes my breath away each time I see it. Yes, that is a fact but the reality of who did that and the wisdom and the faith that I have to believe that and to marvel that the one who did that cares about me makes such a difference in how I live my life. Yes, God really does. That is so wonderful for us to believe. And that is why faith and wisdom are so important. Now whatever belief you have at how that marvel happened must also be believed through faith. And the sad thing to me is that more and more people have been taught that there is no God and therefore he did not have a h...

Wednesday... It didn't just happen.

Psalm 16;10 (NLT), "For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave." Wednesday... It didn't just happen. We are headed into a weekend of deep emotion. One that we really really love was killed and it didn't just happen. David in Psalm 16:10 (NLT) writes of this happening. He says about God, "For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave." We read over in the Gospels at the beginning of the New Testament in the Bible of the life of God's Son who came to earth to be our sacrifice so that our soul would not be left among the dead. Jesus came so that we wouldn't have to be buried at death and just left there. But he also shares that Jesus who was going to be killed as a sacrifice for our sins would not have to rot in a grave. David many generations before foretold this and that is what happened. Now that had to be a God thing. We can guess a lot about our future and we d...

Tuesday... Each one of us see and describe what we are going through differently but... We each one have our own way of explaining what we are going through, don't we?  Some of us are maximisers, other are minimizers and neither one is better. We each one are different and we see what we are facing differently but no matter what it is and how you see it and describe it, God can handle it!  Now the writer of Psalm 46 shows the extremes. In verse 1 he states the basic reality and then he moves on into our fears and he maximizes them to make sure we really understand. Here is what Psalm 46:1-3 (NLT) says, "God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!" So what do you fear? The Amplified Bible says verse 1 this way, "God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable], a very presen...
