Tuesday... So what do you really want?
This matter of living by your wants can be a trap but it also can be a way to keep from falling into traps.
One of my friends in my morning coffee shop and I were talking about the fact that a new donut shop is opening up close to where I live. I want, want, want donuts. People will ask me where do I want to go to eat and I tell them that I can't go to where I want to eat which is a donut shop. I have found a greater want that controls my other wants. I want to be healthy so donuts are not a part of my life.
Solomon in Proverbs 23:19-21 (AMP) writies, "Listen, my son and be wise, and direct your heart in the way [of the Lord]. Do not associate with heavy drinkers of wine, or with gluttonous eaters of meat, for the heavy drinker and the glutton will come to poverty, and the drowsiness [of overindulgence] will clothe ones in rags." But I want to eat, eat, eat and I want to drink, drink, drink. But our greater want takes care of the less important, unhealthy and life damaging wants.
Verse 17 (NLT) says, "Don't envy sinners, but always continue to fear the Lord. You will be rewarded for this; your hope will not be disappointed."
Listen, our wants control us so it is so very important for us to be controlled by the right want of hope and expectation.
Verse 35 says, "And you will say, 'They hit me, but I didn't feel it. I didn't even know it when they beat me up. When will I wake up so I can look for another drink?" Now that is a real problem.
Verses 17-19 in the Amplified Bible says, "Do not let your heavy heart envy sinners [who live godless lives and have no hope of salvation], but [continue to] live in the [reverent, worshipful] fear of the Lord day by day. Surely there is a future [and a reward], and your hope and expectation will not be cut off. Listen my (child), and be wise, and direct your heart in the way [of the Lord]."
And that is the want that will make all the difference in our lives. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
