John 6:6:(NLT), "He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do."
Monday... But we really want to have the answer.
We may be in a situation and a problem comes up and someone asks what we should do and we so much want to have the answer. There is such exhilaration in having the answer. And we so many times are so quick to have an answer.
Now Jesus and his disciples were in a very difficult situation. John 6:5 says, "Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, 'Where can we buy bread to feed these people?'" And that was a very realistic problem and question. Now of course many of us would have an answer. I would probably have a list of answers but that wasn't Jesus purpose in asking the question but we want so much to have the right answer.
Could some of us be in a situation right now where we so much want to have the right answer? It would make us feel so good but the right answer just doesn't seem to be there and we feel so worthless.
But Jesus had a different purpose behind asking the question and that may be the reason why he hasn't given us the answer. And there is also no way for us to have the right answer. Now we have so much confidence in ourselves to the point that we in no way think that we don't have what it takes to have the right answer.
But here is what John says in John 6:6, "He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do." There are some times when God is asking us a question and he wants us to have the answer. But in this situation he was the only one to know the right answer. The answer was way above theit ability but they did in some ways show some initiative.
Verses 8-9 (NIRV) says, "Another of his disciples spoke up. It was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He said, 'Here is a boy with five small loaves of barley bread. He also has two small fish." He gave this impossible answer but he didn't want to look foolish so he said, "But how far will that go in such a large crowd."
Yes, we may have the potential answer but we also don't want to look foolish so we save ourselves but God may be testing us.
So what are some of our answers in what we are going through? And also what are we saying to protect ourselves?
Verse 6 in The Message says, "He said this to stretch Philip's faith. He already knew what he was going to do."
We may not know but God does. He may be stretching our faith.
By the way, Jesus fed over 5,000 people with those loaves of bread and two fishes. And there were leftovers.
We have three situations going on in our lives right now. One it seems the answer is coming but the other two seem impossible. So we must take the one that is being worked out and stretching our faith in the other two. But we really want to have the answer. But God wants us to have the faith and step out and do what we do know to do.
Verses 5-6 in The Message says, "When Jesus looked out and saw that a large crowd had arrived, he said to Philip, 'Where can we buy bread to feed these people?' He said this to stretch Philip's faith. He already knew what he was going to do."
So that is our answer. He already knows what he is going to do and it is way beyond what we could ever think! Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
