Psalm 70:1 (NIRV,) "God, hurry and save me. Lord, come quickly and help me."
Friday... Could it be done quickly?
I love the book of Psalms. I have read it everyday for over 40 years. I love it's honesty. For the most part it is King David who writes it and here he says what we want to say but many times are afraid to say it. In Psalm 70:1 (NIRV) he writes, "God, hurry and save me. Lord, come quickly and help me."
Now I understand this being impatient. Waiting is so hard but in life it seems that God uses it in spite of our impatience to grow us, to mature us, to make us into the person that will make us worthy of heaven.
I have been reading in Genesis the story of Joseph. It is such a great story. But there was a whole lot of waiting going on.
We are told that Joseph as a teenager was sold by his brothers to a group of traders who were going to Egypt where he was sold as a slave. And it is a difficult story that had its great moments.
Now in Genesis 41:46 (NLT) it says, "Joseph was 30 years old when he began serving Pharaoh, the king of Egypt." And it is amazing what God had brought him through to get him to this place. And for the next 14 years Joseph took the land of Egypt through seven years of plenty and prepared them for seven years of famine. He was at the right place at the right time. It was God's time schedule.
Now in verse 50 it says "During this time, before the first of the famine years, two sons were born to Joseph and his wife, Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, the priest of On." And the names that he gave them says a whole lot about his perspective of how he viewed what he had gone and was going though.
Verses 51-52 says, "Joseph named the older son Manasseh, for he said, 'God has made me forget all my troubles and everyone in my father's family.' Joseph named his second son Ephraim, for he said, 'God has made me faithful in the land of grief.'" Joseph had the right perspective in what he had gone through and it didn't come quickly. It took time.
Back to Psalm 70. In verse 5 David writes, "But as for me, I am poor and needy; please hurry to my aid, O God. You are my helper and my savior; O Lord, do not delay." But Joseph's life is proof that God knows best what he is doing and waiting can be apart of his doing what is best.
And here is the way to handle the waiting. Verse 4 says, "But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, 'God is great!'"
The Amplified Bible says, "May all those who seek You [as life's first priority] rejoice and be glad in You; May those who love Your salvation say continually; 'Let God be magnified.'" And The Message, "Let those on the hunt for you sing and celebrate. Let all who love your saving way say over and over, 'God is mighty.'"
God knows what he is doing in our lives. Yes, He is mighty and let's let him be magnified through our life, no matter how long it takes. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
