Tuesday... Each one of us see and describe what we are going through differently but...
We each one have our own way of explaining what we are going through, don't we? Some of us are maximisers, other are minimizers and neither one is better. We each one are different and we see what we are facing differently but no matter what it is and how you see it and describe it, God can handle it!
Now the writer of Psalm 46 shows the extremes. In verse 1 he states the basic reality and then he moves on into our fears and he maximizes them to make sure we really understand.
Here is what Psalm 46:1-3 (NLT) says, "God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!"
So what do you fear? The Amplified Bible says verse 1 this way, "God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable], a very present and well-proven help in trouble." No matter what it is that we are facing today God has what it takes. He is a very present and well-proven help in trouble. He has can handle whatever the situation we are fearful of and whatever we are facing in our life today. That is a fact.
Now the first part of verse 2 says, "Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change." We do not face earthquakes in many places where we live but we each one do face change and for many they do not like change, it is one of their greatest fears. We have some changes happening around us and they aren't necessarily fun but they are real. And whether you are a maximizer or a minimizer, change can be a real problem, can't it?
Now here is a great refuge in change. Proverbs 16:20 says, "He who pays attention to the word [of God] will find good, and blessed (happy, prosperous, to be admired) is he who trusts [confidently] in the Lord."
If we will pay attention to God's word then we will find bad, and change is bad. No! "He who pays attention to the word [of God] will find good," and it doesn't stop there. It goes on, " and blessed (happy, prosperous, to be admired) is he who trusts [confidently] in the Lord."
Even where we are facing our fears, even when we are facing change, even when something that we are going through is greater than anything we have ever faced before, such as earthquakes and mountains crumbling into the sea and also losing our jobs or having trouble in our relationships or whatever your situation is, "God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble."
And that is a fact. Just believe it. "God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble." And verse 11 (NIV) says, "The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress." Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
