Monday... This is one of God's most valuable gifts. And we need it, we need it today.
Proverbs 8:11 (NLT), tells us. "For wisdom is far more valuable than rubies. Nothing you desire can compare with it."
Solomon the writer of most of the Old Testament book of Proverbs goes on in verses 12-14. He shares what comes with wisdom. He writes, "I, Wisdom. live together with good judgment. I know where to discover knowledge and discernment. All who fear the Lord will hate evil. Therefore I hate pride and arrogance, corruption and perverse speech. Common sense and success belong to me."
James over in the New Testament of the Bible writes in James 1:5, "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking." Yes, it is a gift from God and it is a valuable gift that you can ask for.
Yes, it is OK for you to ask for wisdom. But there are some requirements in being able to ask for it and to receive it. Verses 6-8 says, "But when you ask him, be sure your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do." The NIRV says, "This kind of person can't make up their mind. They can never decide what to do."
Now back to Proverbs 8:13 in the Amplified Bible. It says, "The [reverent] fear of the Lord includes the hatred of evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way, and the perverted mouth, I hate." The (NIRV) says, "To have respect for the Lord is to hate evil. I hate pride and bragging. I hate evil ways and twisted words."
It is so easy for us to say that we don't need wisdom. We're smart. We know what is best, we know what we are doing. We don't need God. Well, God hates that kind of thinking.
With wisdom which is a gift from God verse 14 says, "I have good sense and give good advice. I have understanding and power."
Now that is a valuable gift that makes such a difference in our lives. So let's set aside our pride and our arrogance and humble ourselves and ask God for wisdom. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
