Saturday... Sometime our mind gets ahead of the truth.
For the most part we think we are smart. We see a situation and believe in our ability to come up with the answer. But Proverbs 3:5 & 6 (NLT) gives us a great platform to live on.
They say, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."
Now we have been taught by our world to believe in ourselves, in our abilities, our view of life and our smarts. Yes, we have unbelievable abilities and understanding and that is important but it needs to be taken a major step further. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take." Even in our great abilities we can not see all that God can see, know all that God knows and do what he can do.
There was a time in the Gospel of Mark that Jesus went home. In Mark 6:2-3 it says, "The next Sabbath he began teaching in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. They asked, 'Where did he get all of this wisdom and the power to perform such miracles?' Then they scoffed, 'He's just a carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters live right here among us' They were deeply offended and refused to believe in him."
Sometimes our mind gets ahead of the truth. "He's just a carpenter." "They were deeply offended and refused to believe in him." "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding." We think we are so smart.
Verses 4-5 in Mark says, "The Jesus told them, 'A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family.' And because of their unbelief, he couldn't do any miracles among then except to place his hands on a few sick people and heal them. And he was amazed at their unbelief."
By the way, later in this chapter, Mark tells of how Jesus fed way over 5,000 people with five loaves and two fishes and he also walked on water and calmed a storm and then the last verse says, "Wherever he went - in villages, cities, or the countryside - they brought the sick out to the marketplaces. They begged him to let the sick touch at lease the fringe of his robe, and all who touched him were healed."
Now back to Proverbs 3. The Amplified Bible says verses 5-7 this way, "Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, and He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way]. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord [with reverent awe and obedience] and turn [entirely] away from evil."
So don't get your mind ahead of the truth. "Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight or understanding." Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
