Tuesday... So where do they come from?
Life has its good times and not so good times. I am a big Los Angeles Dodgers fan and they lost last night their second game in a best out of five playoff series. My football team also lost this weekend. So I've come to the conclusion that my joy and gladness doesn't always come from my sports teams. So many places where we look for joy and gladness so many times brings us emotional trouble and disappointments.
Now King David was the focus king of Israel and the writer of many of the Psalms in the OT of the Bible and he says in Psalm 70:4 (NLT), "But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you." It seems it's not a where but a who.
Now he is not talking about being a fan of the LA Dodgers. It's true that every once in a while I get some joy and gladness from them and I hope that will be true on Wednesday night when they play their next game but in no way is it continual. But we get so emotionally involved in so many things that just don't give us the joy and gladness we're searching for.
So what is it or who is it that we are searching for joy and gladness? Our question might be, so where do they come from? But should be, who is where they come from?
Back to David and verse 4. It says, "But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, 'God is great!'" It's in God where our joy and gladness comes from.
Now David had a clear assessment of himself. In verses 4b-5 he says, "May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, 'God is great!'" May we really get that down. May we really realize that to be true. He goes on, "But as for me, I am poor and needy; please hurry to my aid, O God. You are my helper and my savior; do not delay."
We are constantly told that we are so very special. And that is true. God does not create junk but we also need to realize that we in ourselves don't get our joy and gladness. We are so poor and needy and we need to constantly say, "please hurry to my aid, O God. You are my helper and my savior; do not delay." And in that we can be confident and that he is our helper and salvation.
The Amplified Bible says verse s4-5 this way, "May all who seek You [as life's priority] rejoice and be glad in You; May those who love Your salvation say continually, 'Let God be magnified!' But I am afflicted and needy; Come quickly to me, O God! You are my help and my rescuer."
Again, "May all who seek You [as life's priority] rejoice and be glad in You." So where do joy and gladness come from? They come from God. So let's continually say, "God is great!" and verse 1 (NLT) says, "Please God, rescue me! Come quickly, Lord, and help me." Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
