Tuesday... We can be all tied up in knots. Our anxiety it seems is in control.
And it isn't just true of us but also those connected to us, but it doesn't have to be true.
Now David, the writer of Psalm 131 (NLT) gives us some reasons why this is true in us and also to those around us and shows us the remedy for it. He learned what to do and shares with us.
He says in verses 1-2, "Lord, my heart is not proud; my eyes are not haughty." Those are two things that God doesn't like. David goes on, "I don't concern myself with matters too great or too awesome for me to grasp. Instead," Such a great word, "Instead, I have calmed myself like a weaned child who no longer cries for its mother's milk. Yes, like a weaned child is my soul within me."
And here is the key, here is what makes this possible in getting our act all together. It takes care of our pride, our haughtiness, our taking on more than we can handle, and it gives us calmness. Verse 3 says, "O Israel" or whatever our name is, O Bill, "put your hope in the Lord - now and always."
Do you realize what a difference it would make in all of us, in our lives, in our relationships, in our present, in our future, in our families, in our spouses, in our kids or grandkids, in those we work with, if we would put our hope, not in ourselves and our abilities but in God?
I wonder where that pride went, I wonder where that haughtiness went, where that heavy load went and where that calmness came into our life?
Verses 2-3 in the Amplified Bible says, "Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul; like a weaned child [resting] with his mother, my soul is like a weaned child within me [composed and freed from discontent]. O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forever." Again the NLT says, "O Israel, put your hope in the Lord - now and always."
And see what happens. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
