Saturday... So, how would we respond?
What if you had gone through a very difficult situation and you had been rescued? How would you have responded? Who would have gotten the credit? Who got the credit in you mind of taking us through COVID? For many we know who gets the credit for the bad that happen in our lives.
Well King David wrote and sang Psalm 18 to the Lord on the day the Lord rescued him from all his enemies and from King Saul who was trying to kill him.
Here is how he began his Psalm. He sang in verses 1-2 (NLT), "I love you, Lord; you are my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me," I love that, "He is the power that saves me, and my place of safety." It is so easy to give others the credit. God may have used them, but "He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety."
He then sings in verse 3, "I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies."
He knew who to call on for help. He knew whom he could depend on "and he saved me from my enemies." He saved me, He saved me. I called on Him and He saved me. That was the part that David played. He called on God to save Him and then he gave Him praise.
Maybe what is happening on many university campuses is our youth are giving praise to God for what He has done in bringing us through our difficult pandemic. It is so easy for us even as Christians to bypass God and give others the credit and praise them for bringing us through when it was God. Revival comes when we call on Him and then give Him the praise.
David sang, "I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies." He is the one who is worthy of our praise.
There is so much that David sings here in these 50 verses and he ends by singing in verses 46- 50, "The Lord lives! Praise to my Rock! May the God of my salvation be exalted! He is the God who pays back those who harm me; he subdues the nations under me and rescues me from my enemies; you save me from violent opponents. For this, O Lord, I will praise you among the nations; I will sing praises to your name. You give great victories to your king; you show unfailing love to your anointed, to David and all his descendants." And that is us.
And that is how to respond. We call on Him then we give Him the praise. He gives great victories and He shows unfailing love. "I will sing praises to your name." Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
