Monday... He understood and knew what to do. King David understood.
Oh he was a king but he also had so much trouble and so many difficulties. We can relate to him in so many ways and that is why I love to read his Psalms in the OT.
Look at how he starts Psalm 140. He says in verse 1 (MSG), "God, get me out of here, away from this evil; protect me from these vicious people" Now we could say that, couldn't we? Verse 2 says, "All they do is think up new ways to be bad; they spend their days plotting war games."
And I like how he ends this Psalm. In verses 12-13 he says, "I know that you, God, are on the side of victims, that you care for the rights of the poor. And I know that the righteous personally thank you, that good people are secure in your presence." Maybe that is what you needed to hear today. Listen, if you are a victim, God is on your side. Yes He is.
Solomon, David's son gives some great advice in handling difficult and vicious people. He writes in Proverbs 20:3 (NLT), "Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor, only fools insist on quarreling." Don't deal with them the way they act. Quarreling with them isn't the best way to handle them. That's what they want.
And then verse 22 is such an important way to handle them. It says, "Don't say, 'I will get even for this wrong.' Wait for the Lord to handle the matter." The Amplified Bible says, "Do not say, 'I will repay evil'; wait [expectantly] for the Lord, and he will rescue and save you." The Message says, "Don't ever say, 'I'll get you for that!' Wait for God, he'll settle the score."
Now we like to get even, to settle the score. That's the way we want to handle it. But God says, "Wait for me. I'll take care of it."
Back to Psalm 140:12-13, (AMP), "I know [with confidence] that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and [will secure] justice for the poor. Surely the righteous will give thanks to Your name; the upright will dwell in your presence." And that is what we can do. We can give thanks to Your name. That is what the righteous are to do. "Surely the righteous will give thanks to Your name; the upright will dwell in your presence." Yes, yes! #$todaysbeginning
