Thursday... Sometimes, we do things that don't please God.
This must have been one of those times for David as He wrote Psalm 6.
In verse 1 (NLT) he says, "O Lord, don't rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your rage." And that can be a good honest prayer to pray and maybe that could be your prayer today. But if we are not there yet we need to stop and realize what could happen to us if God was really angry at us and our actions and what could happen if He would discipline us in His rage. Yes, He is a God of love, of grace but we better not take for granite that fact, especially if others are being hurt by us.
His prayer goes on in verses 2 & 3, "Have compassion on me, Lord for I am weak. Heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony. I am sick at heart. How long, O Lord, until you restore me."
Going against what God wants can have a physical kickback. It really can. God in His love and wisdom, will use whatever He can to get us back on track but He also will wait to see if we are really serious. It is not a good thing to go against God.
David in verses 6 - 7 shows he is serious. He says, "I am worn out from my sobbing. All night I flood my bed with weeping, drenching it with tears. My vision is blurred by grief, my eyes are worn out because of all my enemies."
But then comes verses 8-9, "Go away all you who do evil, for the Lord has heard my plea, the Lord will answer my prayer." When we show that we are really repentant, that we acknowledge our wrong, our sin and show Him and others that we are going to do what He wants then He will answer and help us in our messed up life. He really will. God wants us to know that He is really serious about our obedience.
Now what would have happened if David hadn't really been repentant of His wrong? But He was and God brought His Son into the world through David's lineage.
God will use whatever He can to bring you and me into living a righteous life. Because He knows what He wants to do through us. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
