Friday... But do you understand?
That word has come up in many instances in my discussions with others. It has been so important to me to be understood not necessarily to be in agreement but to be understood.
But as I was reading Proverbs 3:5 (NLT) I saw the word in a different light. At least how I was using it. It says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart. do not depend on your own understanding." It seems that for us to be understood is not the important thing here. It even has a do not attached to it. It seems to be a self-centered thing. The important issue is to trust in the Lord with all your heart and to not depend on your own understanding. But what we think can be so important to us.
Yes it is important to understand but not necessarily to be understood. Proverbs 2:1-5 says, "My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. Turn your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasure. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God."
To be understood is not the important issue it is to understand. Again Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."
There is so much more for us to understand and it all starts with a heart that completely trusts in God. Verses 7-8 says, "Don't be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones."
This self stuff gets in the way. Verses 5-8 (MSG), "Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God's voice in everything you do; he's the one who will keep you on track. Don't assume you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil! Your body will glow with health, your very bones will vibrate with life." That is the kind of understand that make a difference. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
