Thursday... How did your sleep go last night?
The writers of Proverbs and Psalms gives us some thoughts on sleep.
Proverbs 3:21-23 (NLT) says, "My child, don't lose sight of common sense and discernment." Our mind can go wild when we are wanting to go to sleep, can't it? He says, "don't lose sight of common sense and discernment. Hang on to them, for they will refresh your soul. They are like jewels on a necklace, they keep you safe on your way, and your feet will not stumble."
He then says in verse 24, "You can go to bed without fear; you will lie down and sleep soundly. You need not be afraid of disaster or the destruction that comes upon the wicked, for the Lord is your security. He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap." That is so true. He will. He will.
The Psalmist also deals with this. Psalm 63:6-8 (MSG) says, "If I'm sleepless at midnight, I spend the hours in grateful reflection. Because you've always stood up for me, I'm free to run and play. I hold on to you for dear life, and you hold me steady as a post." Now that is way better than fear, isn't it?
And then think of this. James 5:10-11 says, "Take the old prophets as your mentors. They put us with anything, went through everything, and never quit, all the time honoring God. What a gift life is to those who stay the course! You've heard of course of Job's staying power and you know how God brought it all together for him at the end. That's because God cares, cares right down to the last detail."
So don't lose sight of common sense and discernment, reflect on what God has done for you and that He cares for you right down to the last detail. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
