Wednesday... There's something better.
Have you ever gotten up early and headed out for a run or a workout at the gym because you want to feel better, to look better and maybe to live longer? Or maybe you have set aside buying things that you want because you are saving for something better? Or maybe you are working harder than others because you want that promotion?
The writer of Hebrews 11 tells of people who lived lives of sacrifice because they had faith for something better. It is a great chapter isn't it about people of faith? And it is a good chapter for us in living through some very tough times.
The first verse (NIV) says, "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." but the last verse is what caught my attention today. Verse 39 says, "These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect."
No matter what we have by faith accomplished there is still something better. No matter what we have gone though here on this earth, God has planned something better. I love that. "God has planned something better."
The NLT says, "For God had something better in mind for us." He is not done. He knows what He is doing. David writes in Psalm 56:3 & 4, "But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. I will praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?"
Verses 12 & 13 (MSG) says, "God, you did everything you promised, and I'm thanking you with all my heart. You pulled me from the brink of death, my feet from the cliff-edge of doom. Now I stroll at leisure with God in the sunlit fields of life." You can bank on even something better. "God has planned something better." So hold on! Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
