Friday... Do you ever talk to yourself? Do you? What do you talk about?
David in Psalm 42:5 (MSG) had one of those conversations with himself. He said, "Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you singing the blues?" Do you have conversations like that? Do you? If you are down in the dumps or singing the blues then I'm sure it is a good thing to ask why? So if you are, then why? Just be honest.
Now there could be a lot of things in our lives that could cause us to get down in the dumps but there are also a lot that can lift us up too.
And David had the right idea. He said, "Fix my eyes on God - soon I'll be praising again." I'm tired of being down in the dumbs, at being discouraged. Yes there is stuff in my life that is not the best but I'm going to fix my eyes on God, on what He is like, on Who He is and all the good that He has done and is doing in my life and soon I'll be praising again. And David says, "He puts a smile on my face. He's my God."
He goes on, verses 6-8, "When my soul is in the dumps, I rehearse everything I know of you. From Jordans depths to Hermon heights, including Mount Mizar. Chaos calls to chaos, to the tune of whitewater rapids. Your breaking surf, your thundering breakers crash and crush me. Then God promises to love me all day, sing songs all through the night. My life is God's prayer."
And then in verse 11 he says again, "Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you crying the blues? Fix my eyes on God - soon I'll be praising again. He puts a smile on my face. He's my God." Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
