Friday... What are you expecting for today? That is a very good question that goes a long way in forming this new day.
David the writer of Psalm 5 (NLT) starts by saying, "O Lord, hear me as I pray; pay attention to my groaning." That's a good place to start, isn't it?
Then in verse 3 he says, "Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly." There it is. He starts his day bringing his requests to God and then waits expectantly.
I started my morning by going to God and thanking Him for all that came to my mind of what He did for me yesterday. That is a great way to start building expectancy. Just remind yourself of what God did for you yesterday. Why not stop right now and thank Him for at least five things He did for you yesterday. Start with thanking Him for the good night's rest. He did that for you. And then go from there. We so many times start with our urgent needs and that's okay, but starting with thanksgiving changes our focus from groaning to expectancy, to confidence.
Another starting place is God's Word.
I read today in the book of Joshua in the OT of the Bible of the task of dividing the Promise Land into where all the 12 tribes were going to live. Yes, they blew it over and over but finally it was happening and that built my confidence, my expectancy. Joshua 21:45 & 46 says, "None of their enemies could stand against them, for the Lord helped them conquer all their enemies. Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true." And the Word of God builds our expectancy. He has done it before and He will do it again.
And then Psalm 5:11 says, "But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy." Some praising God and rejoicing goes a long way in building expectancy. And then verse 12 says, "For you bless the godly, O Lord; you surround then with your shield of love." And that is also so true.
So, verse 3 says, "Listen to my voice in the morning Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly." Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
