Sunday... But what if we did it...
The writer of Psalm 137 (NLT) says starting in verse 1, "Beside the rivers of Babylon, we sat and wept as we thought of Jerusalem. We put away our harps, hanging them on the branches of poplar tress. For our captors demanded a song from us. Our tormentors insisted on a joyful hymn: 'Sing us one of those songs of Jerusalem!' But how can we sing the songs of the Lord while in a pagan land."
But what if we did sing those songs, what if we maybe sang them at home instead of crying because we can't go to church because our country isn't the same as it used to be, that we are truly in a different land, a different life? What if we showed that God makes a difference no matter the time or place? What if?
We sat and wept because we thought of how it used to be. So we quit singing, but those who didn't believe demanded something different from us. In the good times we sing but in the bad times we cry. God wants to give us a song even in the bad times, even in the pandemic, even when we need to wear masks to protect each other, even when we separate ourselves from each other. What if we sang even when life isn't the same? What if God wants to see if we care about others and their needs, what if we lift our voices in song to lift their spirits, to show them that we have a song even in a pandemic? What if?
Verse 6 says,, "May my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth if I fail to remember you."
Oh God, wake us up as Christians and may we sing the songs of hope and not despair, of service not demands, of faith not conspiracy. May we remember what you have done for us and may we share through our lives lived out as you would have us to live. What if we did that? What a difference it would make in showing that You truly do make a difference in our lives!
We have a song to sing and it is a joyful one no matter what we are going through and no matter where we are are living. May we not fail to remember whom we serve!
Psalm 98:1 says, "Sing a new song to the Lord, for he has done wonderful deeds. His right hand has won a victory; his holy arm has shown his saving power!" Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
