Psalm 142:5 (NLT) says, "Then I pray to you, O Lord. I say, 'You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life.'"
Tuesday... So, where can we live today?
King David, the writer of this Psalm was living in a cave at this point in his life. He was hiding from King Saul who was wanting to kill him. Now I'm not sure if that is where you are are living and what is happening to you but many do live in a cave of aloneness.
Verse 4 says, "I look for someone to come and help me but no one gives me a passing thought! No one will help me; no one cares a bit what happens to me." And that is an emotional cave where so many are living today and it is so real.
Now the problem is that a cave is dark and it usually only has one way out. The path through a cave is not heavily traveled. And too many times people who care about the cave dweller believe that they don't want to be bothered. But it is a very very lonely place to live.
And verse 5 tells what David did. Yes he was very discouraged and very alone. You see he was hiding but he knew he had to do something. He really did come to his senses. Verse 5 says, "Then I pray to you, O Lord. I say, 'You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life.'" He emotionally and spiritually did an about face and that is a tremendous way to handle so many of our situations. Again, he emotionally and spiritually took his eyes off of his situation and turned to God.
Verses 6 & 7 says, "Hear my cry, for I am very low. Rescue me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me. Bring me out of prison so I can thank you. The godly will crowd around me, for you are good to me."
Yes, he was honest about his situation and he knew his problem was too great but he knew who to turn to and what he could do and he thanked God before he did anything. Now that is a great place to live, isn't it? And it is our choice.
You may be living today in an emotional cave and what you are hiding from is greater than you can handle. So emotionally and spiritually do an about face and turn to God. He will hear your cry. And that is a great place to live. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
