Thursday... What more could he have done?
Isaiah the prophet in chapter 5 of his book tells about all that a man did to make a beautiful, productive vineyard. In verse 2 he says, "He plowed the land, cleared its stones, and planted it with the best vines. In the middle he built a watchtower and carved a winepress in the nearby rocks. Then he waited for the harvest of sweet grapes, but the grapes he grew were bitter."
And then in verse 4 it says, "What more could I have done for my vineyard that I have not already done? When I expect sweet grapes, why did my vineyard give me bitter grapes?"
Have you ever thought about what more does God needs to do in peoples lives that haven't turned to him, who don't follow him? I mean, he created a beautiful garden back in Genesis and Adam and Eve didn't do what he wanted them to do and so many are doing the same thing today. What more could he have done?
David says in Psalm 65:10-11, "You drench the plowed ground with rain, melting the clods and leveling the ridges. You soften the earth with showers and bless its abundant crops. You crown the year with bountiful harvest; even the hard pathways overflow with abundance." He does that in our lives. He really does.
Here is what he wants. Verses 1-3 says, "What mighty praise, O God, belongs to you in Zion. We will fulfill our vows to you, for you answer our prayers. All of us must come to you. Though we are overwhelmed by our sins, you forgive them all." And then verse 5, "You faithfully answer our prayers with awesome deeds, O God our savior. You are the hope of everyone on earth, even those who sail on distant seas."
What more could he do? Well, God sent his Son, Jesus to live among us and then to die for our sins but who was then resurrected and taken back to heaven. Hebrews 4:14-16 (MSG) says, "Now that we know what we have - Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God - let's not let it slip through our fingers. We don't have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He's been through weakness and testing, experiencing it all - all but the sin. So let's walk right up to him and get what he is ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help."
He has done more than enough for us. So let's take the mercy and accept his help. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
