Friday... Who do we listen to?
There are so many voices out there trying to get our attention, aren't there?
David in Psalm 11:1-2b (MSG) says, "I've already run for dear life straight to the arms of God. So why would I run away now when you say, 'Run to the mountains?'" He then says in verse 4, "But God hasn't moved to the mountains; his holy address hasn't changed. He's in charge, as always."
Do you get confused with what people say on social media? It really can get confusing, can't it?
Now this is important to see. Verse 7 says, "God's business is putting things right; he loves getting the lines straight, setting us straight. Once we're standing tall, we can look him straight in the eyes."
Paul over in his letter to the Galatian church was having some trouble with what he called, (2:4) "spies pretending to be Christians," and they were saying that we needed to live by the Jewish law but Paul didn't agree. He said in verse 19 (NLT), "For when I tried to keep the law, it condemned me. So I died to the law - I stopped trying to meet all its requirements - so that I might live for God."
He goes on in verses 20-21, "My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in the earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there is no need for Christ to die." He is saying that they were wrong. That's not the truth. I'm not going to listen to you.
Listen, if we have "run for dear life straight to the arms of God," if "God's business is putting things right; he loves getting the lines straight, setting us straight." and if "my old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me," then "Once we're standing tall, we can look him straight in the eyes" and "So I live in the earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
So who do we listen to? We listen to Christ who lives in us and through his Word. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
