Tuesday... They seem to go together.
In Psalm 138 there are two verses that seem to go together. Verse 3 says, "As soon as I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me strength." And then verse 6, "Though the Lord is great, he cares for the humble, but he keeps his distance from the proud."
Have you found that as soon as you pray, the Lord answers you? Now the proud would say, no, because I don't ask him, I know what to do so I don't need God and that could be the reason why he keeps his distance from you with your pride.
Now God does answer us as soon as we pray but maybe the answer isn't what we want and so we disregard it. But the humble don't have all the answers and they have a trust in God and so they are in tune with God to the point that they hear the answer as soon as they pray. Now even if the answer isn't the one they want or they don't understand it, they trust God. He knows what is best and he knows what he is doing.
Verse 2 says, "I bow before your holy Temple as I worship. I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness, for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name." So, verse 3a, "As soon as I pray, you answer me."
The humble trust God, the proud trust themselves. The humble need God, the proud don't. The humble worship God and his unfailing love and faithfulness and the proud worship themselves and their abilities and successes. The humble need his encouragement and strength, the proud don't. Verse 6 says, "Though the Lord is great, he cares for the humble, but he keeps his distance from the proud."
Now here is a thought. Someday, the proud will realize they need God. In the last book in the Bible, Revelations, it says that at some time, "Every knee will bow." And the key is, it is important that it happens before the day of judgement when we realize that we blew it, that we were wrong and the humble were right and we can't do anything about it.
Here is what the humble say, verses 7 & 8, "Though I am surrounded by trouble, you will protect me from the anger of my enemies. You reach out your hand, and the power of your right hand saves me. The Lord will work out his plans for my life - for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. Don't abandon me, for you made me."
Again, verse 6 says, "Though the Lord is great, he cares for the humble, but he keeps his distance from the proud." Let's choose to be humble, to put our trust in the Lord who is great! Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
