Wednesday... But we thought they had arrived.

Wednesday... But we thought they had arrived.

We look up to those who have it made, who are rich and think they have arrived. We are so impressed with them.

The Psalmist writes in chapter 49:16-19 (MSG), "So don't be impressed with those who get rich and pile up fame and fortune. They can't take it with them; fame and fortune all get left behind. Just when they think they've arrived and folks praise them because they've made good, they enter the family burial plot where they'll never see sunshine again."

There was a man over in the gospel of John who thought he had arrived. He was to be married and he had everything he needed to made this day a success. All these people had come and he had the best wine that money could buy. He had arrived that is until he ran out of wine.

The writer of Proverbs 19:2 (MSG) says, "People ruin their lives by their own stupidity, so why does God get the blame." So many in those times when the wine runs out blame God. It's His fault. I did all I can do and He caused the wine to run out. We play the blame game.

But at his wedding he had a guest. And in our lives we too have this guest.

The story is told in John 2. Verses 1b-2 (MSG) says, "Jesus' mother was there. Jesus and his disciples were guests also." Verse 3, "When they started running low on wine at the wedding banquet, his mother told him, 'They're just about out of wine.'"

I love verse 4, "Jesus said, 'Is that any of our business, Mother - yours or mine? This isn't my time. Don't push me.'" I'm sure He was testing His mom and her faith.

We put our trust in our own abilities, in our successes, in our wealth. But His mother put her trust in Him. Verse 5 says, "She went ahead anyway, telling the servants, 'Whatever he tells you, do it.'" And that is the key to a real successful life. "Whatever he tells you, do it." He will not force His way into our life but He will make all the difference in our life if we turn to Him and do what He says.

And He had them fill six stoneware thirty gallon water pots with water and then take them to the host. Verse 8b said, "Jesus said, and they did." Verses 9-10, "When the host tasted the water that had become wine (he didn't know what had just happened but the servants, of course knew), he called out the bridegroom, 'Everybody I know begins with their finest wines and after the guests have had their fill brings in the cheap stuff. But you've saved the best till now!'"

Oh, if we would learn where to put our trust. Proverbs 19:21-23 (MSG) says, "We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but God's purpose prevails. It's only human to want to make a buck, but it is better to be poor than a liar. Fear-of-God is life itself, a full life, and serene - no nasty surprises."

Now that is when we really arrive. When we put our trust in Him and do what he says. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning

Tuesday... It is so worth it. It really is!

Tuesday... It is so worth it. It really is! Look at this, Proverbs 5:21-23 (CEV) says, "The Lord sees everything, and he watches us closely. Sinners are trapped and caught by their own evil deeds. They get lost and die because of their foolishness and lack of self-control." That is true of so many. Now look at this, Luke 15:1-7 says, "Tax collectors and sinners were all crowding around to listen to Jesus. So the Pharisees and the teachers of the Law of Moses started grumbling, 'This man is friendly with sinners. He even eats with them.' Then Jesus told them this story: If any of you has 100 sheep, and one of them gets lost, what will you do? Won't you leave the 99 in the field and go look for the lost sheep until you find it? And when you find it, you will put it on your shoulder and carry it home. Then you will call in your friends and neighbors and say, 'Let's celebrate! I've found my lost sheep.' Jesus said, 'In the same way there is mo

Tuesday... Let's be smart.

Tuesday... Let's be smart. Proverbs 12:16a (CEV) says, "Losing your temper is foolish." It really is. And it is so hard to take it back. That is not smart. There are always consequence when we lose our temper and they are usually not good. Think of the last time you lost your temper at home, at your kids, at your spouse, at your pets. at your life, at where you live, at where you work. There are always repercussions and they are not good.  The New Living Translation says, "A fool is quick-tempered." The Message says, "Fools have short fuses and explode all too quickly." The Amplified Bible says, "The [arrogant] fool's anger is quickly known [because he lacks self-control and common sense]." It just is not a good thing. is it? But then the rest of this verse, this proverb (CEV) says, "ignoring an insult is smart." It really is. I have striven in dealing with people to give them a benefit of doubt. They didn't mean that, they

Friday... But, can be such a beautiful word.

Friday... But, can be such a beautiful word. It really can be life changing. Look at what Paul writes in his letter to the Ephesians. In 2:1-3 (NLT) he says, "Once you were dead because of your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil - the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God's anger, just like everyone else." There it is, there it is. That is the way we are living or have lived. Dead is a definite word of finality. At least the devil thought so and maybe you do too. And then verses 4-5 starts by saying, "But", that beautiful life changing word of opportunity even though we are dead. Yes, we are subject to God's anger, "But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even t
