Tuesday... We are so good at remembering from a bad slant.
And there is power in that. The bad times in our past have the ability to hold us back but remembering the good from it also has great power.
The writer of Psalm 66:5-6 (NIV) says, "Come and see what God has done, his awesome deeds for mankind! He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on foot - come let us rejoice in him." And over and over the children of Israel are reminded of what happened at the Red Sea, of how they walked across on dry land. God saved them.
Now we are celebrating one of those great miracles. It is the miracle of God sending His Son to earth to save us. And we need to "come and see what God has done and rejoice in him." There is power in remembering.
I remember a truck that I got as a young child and the fun I had with it. I remember an American Flyer train that I got. It was used but it was a gift of love from my mom and dad. So many memories that we have from this time of celebration of the greatest gift ever given. It is so important to remember.
But then verses 8-12 (MSG) says, "Bless our God, O peoples! Give him a thunderous welcome! Didn't he set us on the road to life? Didn't he keep us out of the ditch? He trained us first, passed us like silver through refining fires, brought us into hardscrabble country, pushed us to our very limit, road-tested us inside and out, took us to hell and back; finally he brought us to this well-watered place."
There is great good in remembering the hardscrabble times of life, when we were pushed to our limit, when we passed through the waters on foot.
So let's remember from a good slant what God has brought us through, of how He has refined us. Yes we can look at what we have gone through from a bad slant or we can see it as awesome deeds by God for mankind. There is power in remembering. And it is our choice as to how we remember. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
