Tuesday... So how are your plants doing?
I'm presupposing that you might have some plants inside or outside your house and that you are doing all you can to help them grow. As I was coming out of my house this morning I was marveling at our plants and our trees and how they are coming out of their winter experience and springing into new life.
The same can be said of us as we face a new day. How are we doing in our spiritual growth?
Jesus tells the story of a farmer. In Mark 4:3 (MSG) He says, "Listen, what do you make of this? A farmer planted seed." That is where it starts. Then to 18-19, "The seed cast in the weeds represents the ones who hear the kingdom news but are overwhelmed with worries about all the things they have to do and all the things they want to get. The stress strangles what they have heard and nothing comes of it." Then verse 20 says, "But the seed planted in the good earth represents those who hear the Word, embrace it, and produce a harvest beyond their wildest dreams."
Psalm 146:3-5 says, "Don't put your life in the hands of experts who know nothing of life, of salvation life. Mere humans don't have what it takes; when they die, their project dies with them. Instead get help from the God of Jacob, put your hope in God and know real blessing."
Back to Mark 4 verses 8-9, (NLT), "Still other seed fell on fertile soil, and they sprouted, grew, and produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted! Then he said, 'Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand." And then verses 20 in the NLT, "And the seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear and accepts God's word and produces a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted."
Oh God, may we hear and listen and understand and accept your word and put our hope in you. "Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
